At home

Because I didn’t get to bed until five this morning (I came in just as dad was getting up for work!) I felt a bit groggy when I finally woke up at lunchtime. Didn’t feel like getting up right away so I was still in bed, reading, when the phone started ringing. I dashed downstairs to answer it, in the hopes it might be Ben.

“Hello?”

“Hey babe.”

At the sound of his voice, I burst into tears. “Finally”, I croaked.

“I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to ring you much.”

I wiped my eyes. “Much?”

“You know what I mean. I missed you a couple of times and it’s been nonstop since I arrived.”

“It’s so good to hear from you,” I said, flopping onto the phone chair.

“And you babe. You sound tired.”

“I went clubbing with Stephen last night. And his new guy, Sebastian.”

“In Brighton?” he asked.

“No, we went to London.”

“Don’t, I’m already homesick,” he said, sounding sad.

“I’m sorry. Is everything ok there?”

“Apart from the fact I seem to work round the clock with total tossers? Yeah, I guess it’s fine. At least the weather’s nice.”

“Guess what?” I asked.

“You love me.”

“I do. So, so much. I’m so happy just to hear your voice. I booked a flight.”

“Where to?”

“To come and see you of course!”

“When?” he asked.

“In just over two weeks. I hope that’s ok?”

“I can’t take any time off.”

“I know, I know, but at least I’ll get to see you. Will I be able to stay with you?”

“My accommodations are sparse but…”

“I don’t care. I just want to see you. So I can stay with you?”

“Of course you can. Send me the details in your next letter and if I can’t pick you up at the airport I’ll arrange for someone else to get you.”

Went to Sarah and Simon’s as planned and couldn’t wait to tell Sarah I finally talked to Ben. Her response was not as enthusiastic as I’d hoped but I think she was still hung over from last night.

The three of us went to The Point to see “Betrayed,” with Tom Berenger and Debra Winger, which was pretty good. While we were enjoying a few drinks afterwards, Simon had some interesting observations about the film but Sarah kept interrupting him, gushing about Stephen and how great she thought he was.

If it’s at all possible, going out with a couple made me miss Ben even more.
